Church of San Pietro

Avigliana

Religious Art

The church of St. Peter maintains several cycles of frescos with complex and fascinating layers dated between the 11th and 15th Century. The cycles in the apse made by the 14th Century master of Tommaso d’Acaia, are particularly important.

In the apse on the right, at the end of the fourteenth century,  was active Giacomo Pitterio, painter from Alessandria. In the right aisle there is a Pietà, dating back to 1469 and attributed to Antoine de Lonhy, an artist from Toulouse who lived in Avigliana in 1462. The chapel at the head of the left aisle, with the Stories of St. Joseph and of the Magdalene, is instead to be assigned to the Serra's workshop in Pinerolo.
